Mafeking a place in History

Banjo: What's with Mafeking?

Vicki: It is a good place to see in the rear vision mirror. Seriously. It was significant in Scouting and South African History.

Ian: Scouts may know of the place or just the name, but we provide a lot more.

Banjo: So! It's just a history book?

Ian: It is a little more.

Vicki: We elaborated on the place, the people (native and European) and the events.

Ian: We trace the natives: the Zulus, the Tswana or Baralong and the Matabele.

Vicki: We look at the various colonial overseers: firstly the Portuguese, then the Dutch and finally the Briitsh.

Banjo: What about the Boers?

Ian: They were of Dutch origin and they feature in the story.

Vicki: An interesting person mentioned is Lady Sarah Wilson, who was Winston Churchill's aunt. She was at Mafeking during the Siege.

Ian: We recommend that every Scout Group buys the book!
